Norwegian Story

Here I come with something very different and kinda been asked to write about since I've got a lot of questions about my Norway journey from people that I've met so far ...

I want to answer a question before starting. I do not live in Norway currently but I constantly make back and forth between İstanbul and Oslo ( which will be Katowice and Oslo soon LOL ).

How did this story begin?

( clearing her throat and getting ready to overthink ).
Well, It was not my intention to go to Norway at first and all I wanted to do was to go to Sweden to meet my boyfriend whom I had during that time of period and stay there upmost for 2 weeks. So went to the agency to get a visa appointment. Since I had an American visa and a lot more stamps on my passport I thought it was going to be a piece of cake. But they told me deprecating things which made me think of it again and again. I was down emotionally and trying to figure something else out.
Then in a few seconds, I suddenly looked at the girl and said '' I have an uncle who lives in Norway, can it make it any easier to get the visa? ''. Once I heard that she said '' YES, OF COURSE '', I was on my way to home to gather my stuff and get ready to apply for a visa to go to Norway which was totally out of my plan not even for 2 weeks but 2 months.

How did it go?

It was beyond my expectations... Damn! now I have a place that I call '' Home '' in the world... In the beginning, I was living with my Uncle who has a 5 years old son and that boy wants to play without taking any rest agh... So I wanted to go to Oslo and move out from my uncle's place since he was living out of Oslo, in a town called Eidsvoll ( he partly moved to Spain in this July ). I already had a friend to stay with for 3 nights but also wanted to stay a bit more so went over Couchsurfing and found a host in Oslo.
Such a coincidence, while I was checking the addresses I found out that both of my hosts were living at the same street but I could not remember the number of condos so when I got home I checked the number, too. And saw that my both hosts were living also at the same building... You can not find this combination whether you struggle hard or not.
I don't want to extend the praising part, in a nutshell, all the people that I've met in Oslo and all of their friends also relatives made me feel at home and they were so welcoming, caring and considerate. I was not expecting something more than a couch but they shared their music, their food, their key and most importantly their family with me. Right now I go to Norway constantly and have/had a lovely and extremely cute home mate whom I call as a FlatMats hahaha.

WHAT did I learn so surprisingly while I was there?

After going back to my uncle's place we had his ex-wife as a guest and once she saw me, she said things in Norwegian which I was not able to understand during that moment but right after she left I was looking for an explanation and as I learned thanks to my uncle... When I was a baby, my uncle was new in Norway and hence got married to a Norwegian woman but on the other hand. They could not have a baby at the time they were married. So my dear father has suggested my uncle adopt me as a child and let him watch after me in Norway... I'm sorry but wtf??.. So many things would change and in contrast to what I know, my Norwegian story began earlier than I knew. When I was just a kid...

How did I manage to learn Norwegian?

When I was there, I was already being done with my process of being Norwegian because I was already starting to learn and speak Norwegian but also culture and everything else got me so quick. Since I got back to Turkey I knew I found my home and I was going to go there a lot and settle there as soon as I got the chance but before that, I had something to do before going back. Learning or in some other words Getting better in Norwegian. It took me 3-4 months to keep over 1000 words by using some sort of language apps, audiobooks. Therefore it helped me to have the consciousness of speaking freely enough.
It is a language which is the easiest to learn for a native English speaker because it also has so much similar words with English and also with German. So I still have a lot way to go to purely understand all the things that they speak but so far I can make a conversation and understand half or sometimes more than half or sometimes less than half of the conversation. Let me tell you that I was in Turkey during this process so had no one to practice my Norwegian with even to study grammar I googled and printed a few books from the internet in English...

What made me love Norway this much?

I do not have a certain answer for this question but maybe the tranquility of the country and peaceful atmosphere of it also made me in love with there. Because as you may know, Turkey is in a very complex situation, moreover, has chaotic problems nowadays. During the first week, It was not an easy pie to adjust to a new place where is not crowded as much as Turkey. Maybe after that overcrowded place, I was getting used to it even faster than I was expecting. Later on, when I was back to Turkey, I've never been able to get along with here... But from another perspective, I loved there mostly thanks to my friends. I felt at home.

Do I still have communication with my old friends?

Yes, I'm still in touch with most of them and I met again when I was there during some other times. Other than that I, of course, have other friends from different surroundings, too right now.

So here is the end of my blog topic but let me know if you have any additional question or any suggestions about my texts. You can contact me via Instagram and also by commenting under the text. See you another text with a different topic. BYE :))
